As an organisation, our greatest strength
is our connection to the community

We are very pleased to bring you the 2018-19 Annual Report in what has been an eventful and successful year. We have been enjoying our new premises with all the amazing spaces that enable us to provide been more access for community members to run their own activities including playgroups, cultural events and youth programs. It has always been MECA’s goal to work alongside the community to ensure they have the tools and environment to develop and implement their own ideas and programs. Our new space has ensured that MECA is able to increase community activation in the Mount Druitt area.

MECA has enjoyed further developing our partnerships with the other organisations of the NSW Settlement Partnership delivering settlement services, we have had a focus on ensuring efficient and innovative services are delivered in our area and we have enjoyed working collaboratively with SydWest to design and implement new ways of working together always ensuring the community remain at the heart of what we do. Working with the partners of the NSW Settlement Partnership enables MECA to learn and grow, as a consortium we build on each other’s strengths and work towards a community of practice in resettlement.

MECA has continued to ensure our sustainability as a community organisation. Rather than focus solely on growth, MECA continues to thrive by concentrating on doing what we do and doing it well, we are continually looking at ways to improve our services. We have in place a robust governance structure that supports the delivery of our services by focusing on accountability and measurement.

As an organisation, our greatest strength is our connection to the community. Our most laudable achievements come from the collaborations and partnerships we have with other service providers in the local area. The ongoing pursuit of this method of community engagement is of utmost importance to us. One of the many advantages that this practice confers is the ability to respond flexibly to community need. Specifically, it allows the community itself to craft our programs and services to address issues collaboratively in a timely manner.

One of our greatest adventures of the year was a partnership with an amazing organisation FoodFaith now known as "Planting Seeds by FoodFaith". Planting Seeds by FoodFaith were successful in getting a grant to work with MECA and develop a community garden with a focus on small business creation and education. This has been a wonderful partnership that has delivered some great benefits to our community including outreach horticulture TAFE classes as MECA and free community garden and business workshops.

MECA would not be the place it is without the unwavering commitment of our long term team of staff Yousef, Fadi, Raeanne and Daniel. Thank you team for another tremendous year, our team is a testament to what can be achieved together by looking out for one another and creating an environment for each one of us to thrive and grow. It is an immense pleasure to work alongside such a dedicated and kind group of people. Our team is enabled to work in this way due to the support and dedication of our Management Committee, thank you to the management committee for their guidance, support and vision for MECA. MECA is supported by an extremely talented and passionate group of volunteers, they are the backbone of our organisation. I am truly inspired on a day to day basis by the work done by our volunteers - Thank you.

MECA has maintained a simple and effective formula for our continued success, we are authentic in our work, creative in our design and flexible in our approach. Ultimately , we remain unwavering in our commitment to our community, to do and be, our best.
